Melbourne

Calm entry this morning into Port Phillip Bay and docked at Port of Melbourne at about 7.30. Following the local news reports, we realised the Davis Cup was being played in Melbourne this weekend – get a ticket to the doubles perhaps?  No chance booked out.   We didn’t have any other excursion planned today so we just got the bus into Melbourne City and had a look around.  Walked up to St Patricks Cathedral, huge stone building, colourful stained glass and beautiful gardens, very neat, green and well maintained.  Wandered around the city, through the laneway cafes and malls.  Over to the south side of the Yarra River and to the Art Gallery and went to the Andy Warhol exhibition.  He certainly was a brilliant artist and photographer, we loved looking at his exhibition in Paris when we went there and this was as impressive.

After the cultural fix we went down to the river and decided to do a river cruise for a couple of hours.  We reckon it’s been so long since we’ve been on a boat we may as well enjoy the experience.  We’ve also done the Swan in WA, the Torrens in SA, the Brisbane in QLD and Sydney Harbour; thought we’d add the Yarra in Vic to the list.  Relaxing cruise past the MCG, tennis centre and AAMI Park for an hour then back to the start. 

Jumped on the bus and got back about 3.30.

Couple of beers, tea and watch Port Phillip Bay slide by, back into Bass Strait (which is as calm as ever), day at sea tomorrow then in to Adelaide.
