We thought we’d have a sleep in this morning until we read
our itinerary last night and realised we had to be up at 6.20 to have breakfast
and to our tour of Dunedin at 7.30.
Never mind, it was a chilly 10 degrees this morning, lucky for us it
warmed up by lunchtime to a magnificent 11 degrees. Cold wind and heavy clouds but it came out
sunny most of the time. We had a real
tour guide today, full of knowledge and easy to listen to. First stop the Botanic Gardens, then to the
Railway Station, the lookout above the city then dropped off in the city centre
at the ‘Octagon’ which is like a huge round-a-bout in the centre. There are statues, gardens and markets in the
middle.
We got back to the
shuttle bus pickup and everyone had a huge bag from the legendary
Cadbury Chocolate Factory. We walked a couple of blocks, went through
the museum and bought about 10 kgs of chocolate. Because we are right
on the limit for our luggage weight we'll have to eat all the chocolate
before the end of the cruise??
Loved Dunedin, very clean with
well preserved historic buildings. Back
to the ship at about 2pm and watched as we left the port, past the headland
which was dotted with penguins and had an albatross roost on an outcrop. A seal also popped up beside the ship just as we left the port.

Glad to see your tour experiences were far better this time! What a terrible sacrifice having to eat all that chocolate on the way home - cause they don't feed you on cruises! Everyone knows that there isn't much food on the ships so you have to fill up when you are on shore!
ReplyDeleteMuch better tour this time thanks Trish and Gary. The food on the ship, as you know, is torturous. We are struggling through it and are thankful we have some chocolate rations to get us through the day!!! Love Pam and Vernon
